White-ish gray vapour/smoke coming from the exhaust of my car. Also, it lacks power. Whats going on?

Hello!

The engine seems to 'puff', especially from the exhaust.

There is a white-ish gray vapour/smoke coming from the exhaust.

It smells very sweet and strong!

My car seems to lack power.

When I put my foot down, it makes the smoke worse.

There is some light grease underneath my heater inside my car.

The engine is red hot.

Please help! What is wrong with my car?

My car has never done this before but it started doing it just before. Thankfully, I was 10 minutes away from home when it started,so I don't think I've stressed it out too much.

Ant...

Update:

Hi, it's about 4 degrees here and my car is a FIAT Punto R reg. 1998.

Update 2:

Hi, it's about 4 degrees here and my car is a FIAT Punto R reg. 1998.

Update 3:

Ok, engine coolant levels are very very low. There is a very very slight cream on the cap of the oil thing. The oil colour, etc looks normal.

Is it using up much oil?

    Could be piston rings.

Most likely a blown head gasket. (The gasket between the cylinder head and the engine block.) The sweet smell is antifreeze. It could be a cracked head but not likely unless your car has overheated lately and kept driving any way. Good luck this will cost you 300-700 depending on what vehicle you have.

I agree with Fafulone, sounds like a blown cylinder head gasket, cylinder head or engine block. Don't start it again and get a mechanic to it before you do any more damage. If you are really lucky it will only be the gasket, otherwise it will be expensive.

Sounds like you have a cracked cylinder head, the white smoke is steam generated by the coolant getting into the bores.

Basically it's a very sick car and needs towing, not driving to a qualified mechanic

unfortunately you have either a failed head gasket or the head is now warped or cracked. the head has to come off to repair. the low coolant with cream on top is because the head or gasket is allowing the fluid to enter the combustion chamber and the cream is engine oil getting into the coolant. most likely a crack. sorry, expensive to repair.

All the symptoms you are describing point directly to a blown head gasket! It's going to be an expensive fix too, probably more than the car is worth.

blown head gasket or cracked head or block, you are smelling anti freeze turning to steam, how cold has it been where you live or did your car overheat recently? The damage is done now, don't drive it any more, no power cause one or more of your cylinders has water getting into it, now just hope for a gasket instead of block or head but your description and driving it for ten minutes while hot is not good! what make and model is it?

Head gasket is blown. It will be blown at cylinder 1 exhaust side.

Have head skimmed and refit.Should cost no more than 300pounds or you are being ripped!

    Hi

You don't say if it's petrol or diesel, if it's a petrol engine then you're burning too much fuel, if it's diesel then it's either the timing, pump or injectors, as for overheating check the engine oil level and the header tank for water and no long journey's until it's sorted.

Sounds like the head gasket may have blown, call the AA or RAC and they should be able to fix it on your drive or tow it to the garage, or get the local garage to come and tow it in for you....

sounds like a head gasket has blown, check your coolant level (when cold) if it is low it would indicate blown gasket
