structually sound, is it too much weight?

beams in good shape, 2 by 8 spaced every 16 inches.

subfloor in good shape, 1 by 5 laid diagonally.

1/2 in wonderboard laid with quickset mortar and nails.

12 by 12 cerarmic tile laid with quickset mortar and grout.

got it down to the wonderboard with nails as quickset and it seems to be solid as a rock.

is this too much weight on a 15 by 10 foot room with foundation walls on 3 sides?

Depends on a few more factors. Are the floor joist *white lumber such as pine, hemlock. This is the type lumber they sell now at some lumber yards. If this is an older home you are probably ok. Older homes use a lot of douglas fir, even rough oak for floor joist, or Southern yellow pine - all are very strong.

If these span the 10 foot length, no problem even for white lumber. If they span the 15' distance you will have some floor bounce.

I hate this. This is when you can stand anywhere in the middle of the room and get the floor to bounce with a little up and down Knee action.

This is the best way to test it, because if this happens and your floor does deflect a little, it could be disaster for the thinset and grout.

It doesn't take much flexing for thinset and grout to crack and loosen up.If your floor does have a bounce, you may need to go in the crawl space or basement and slip in a center floor beam to correct the problem. Give it a test and see what you think.

OK if the beams are spanning the 10'.

    'Iffy' if they span 15'.
