"Seasoned" scientists - What happened to p/n notation - anyone still use it?
For example,
3.78 X 10^5 = 3.78p5
9.15 X 10^-12 = 9.15n12
I use it frequently, it saves typing and writing. I read about it in some journal a long time ago (can't remember where) and was curious if anyone had any insight as to why it did not "catch on."

I wasn't familiar with that notation, but I can see one obvious problem with it. When writing equations, it would be tough to tell whether or not p and n are algebraic variables. Especially since p and n are commonly used variables. It would just make things kind of confusing. Sometimes I use a little capital E (you see this on some calculators) when writing to save space.
