Literary Question: Does anyone see any similarities between todays two political parties.........?
...And H.G. Wells 'Time Machine'?
Here I'm referring to 'evolution' of the human race into the peace-loving terrestrial race and their sub-terranean, meat eating counterparts...
As mentioned, this question alludes to an actual book you might be expected to have read to post an intelligent response to the question.
But don't worry if you are a republican or conservative who hasn't read that work of literature or anything else other than Ayn Rand and doesn't cognate the caricature of the natures of our two parties. You can still watch Mel Gibson's Ransom, narrated by Gary Sinise for a quick synopsis of what to expect.)
What do you think the author was trying to say about the class system or capitalist politics of that era or our own if you think it fits..

by meat eating Morlocks I should also add..cannibalistic,...post industrial ....
by peace loving i should also add 'rational and docile'...
Your rant about Wells is impressive. I will admit I haven't researched him thoroughly for being a good liberal role model or not. I just thought the novel was pretty good and worthy of some thought.
Thats mainly what the question is about..Look at what path your party is taking you toward
I think your term liberal fascist is contrived...and your references to 19th century liberalism as some how being analogous to today rather 'quaint'. (I do mean your term because those words are an oxymoron if we are talking about 21st century and the united states and the democratic party...) And most fascist states emerged from the right.
but i still give you the thumbs up for your rebuttal...
i agree with the sentiment that both parties are 'potentially' dangerous if taken to an extreme but I started thinking about this question after I saw J. Garafalo make the statement on Real Time along with Roseanne that republican party/conservatives today is basically people with 'uncontrolled id' complexes and that most democrats are 'fundamentally more decent human beings'
some how this made me think of the year 802,701

I "get" what you are saying. The thing that stood out to me in the book is that at first you would think the humans living above the ground were perfect and the Morlocks were just bad to the core. You soon realize that while the Morlocks were certainly the worst of the two groups the humans above ground lacked emotion and were also far from perfect also. That's why I'm independent. I am a meat eater, who is concerned about our environment. I believe in being self sufficient but I don't think that welfare should be abolished. I am pro choice believe in civil unions and that gays should have the same rights that I do and I am also a CHRISTian. I believe in creationism but I also believe we as people have evolved slightly( not from apes or fish). As with most things in life I don't believe that anyone is all bad or all good and I don't believe that and party is always right and the other is always wrong.

Well, I can give you one underlying similarity, and that is both parties are corrupt in some way. Neither party has been 100% truthful with the people. Sure we put our support behind them because that is our duty as Americans, otherwise we would have an anarchy and not a democracy. But it is a dangerous thing when you put your trust in man fully, only to get burned later. The fact is that people have the ability to be trusted but at the same time, both parties have done something underhanded at some point. No party is or ever will be perfect..

Ironically enough, given your snide comment about what conservatives have or have not read, did you know that H.G. Wells was a liberal fascist?
He was a member of the socialist Fabian Society but left because they weren't radical enough. He believed in a coming one-world government. He fought against any mention of liberal democracy when he was working on the League of Nations charter, and wanted everyone to look to the state for every answer, including having the state replace religion.
Like fascist liberals today, he held the average person in contempt and only wanted scientists and other bureaucrats and technocrats to have a say in society (shades of Al Gore and his denouncing anyone who doesn't believe in his idea of global warming as Holocaust deniers).
Wells was also a strong believer in eugenics, a popular cause of the left in the 19th and early 20th century, and this thinking is believed to his vision of the Morlocks.
In his speech, "Liberal Fascism", Wells said he wanted to help in the phoenix rebirth of liberalism as "an enlightened Nazism."
So, in answer to your question, yes, I see a strong similarity between Wells' views and writings and the current Democrat Party and liberals in general.

I guess I would have to conclude that, both parties are similar in respect to taking blame for certain mishaps, so eventually i think, stereotypically speaking , the republicans would evolve into the Morlocks being stereotypical of "Big Business" , and Democrats would evolve into the Eloy being stereotyped as "hippie liberal" "down with capitalism".
I haven't read any Ayn Rand, but i have heard Atlas Shrugged is still a good read.
a GREAT gary sinese movie is IMPOSTER! check it out!
