My dauschaund has had puppies

they are 1 week old, she is moving them about 10 times a day. I let her move them a few times to a more comfortable spot for her. Now she is picking up her puppies and laying them at my feet. I also have to make her lay down to feed them. Can I do any more than what I am doing now? She stated doing this two days ago, and now doesn't want to lay down to feed them.

Update:

We have a whelping box in our closet, she chose that spot before she had them and started sleeping there. It is very quiet and no traffic there. That is why I thought her behavior is strange. She can come and go as she pleases, as we have a doggy door.

i think shes rejecting them she might just need a break at least she will feed them when you lay her down. maybe you should try and keep them buisy play with them a bbit but stay near mom. shell probabaly feel better if she gets a bit of a break. buy puppy milk formula at walmart or petsmart and buy puppy bottles feed them tht if she decides to completely stop feeding them

is this her first litter? sounds like it to me. if that's the case u have to teach her how to be mom. also she is moving them because she is not comfortable with where they are. she should have a whelping area. that is away from traffic and use a safety gate to keep her with the pups but she can run around away from or keep her ot when she's not feeding. like any new mom she needs me time. Take her for walks or some other exercise. Just make sure she is still feeding and taking care of them and u may need to sit there with her while she feeds. Good Luck and congrats.

You need to put her in a large crate or whelping box, so she cannot move them. Crates will work for this, but be sure to let Mom out at regular intervals to eat, potty, drink.

Dogs do sit with pups less as they age. At ten days, she should still be spending the majority of her time with them. That is why a crate will help you in this situation.

A new mama needs a safe and quiet area to be with her puppies, seems like you are not providing that and that is why she moves them all the time. You need to designate a place for her and her newborns and make her comfortable with them.

Looks like some reading wouldn't hurt also.

Is this is the her first ever litter? When my dog had her first litter she didn't know what to do. Try to keep her still interested with the puppies. Good luck!

I think that she thinks that it's the point where she has done her job and they probably no longer need her assistance. She is probably giving them to you because she wants you to lead the way now and now she wants you to take care of them.
