Narcissistic Personality?

Oh, Dear, I feel for you. My father is like that, too, and my mom is still married to him after forty years. I am an only child, so I saw a lot of it. He's doing better now with help of meds.

I suggest marital counseling first, or at least get some individual counseling so a pro can tell you what might help.

Unfortunately, your life will probably not get much better unless your spouse gets some meds and starts working on it.

Well the best way to handle most personality behaviors is to IGNORE. Do not respond when he is being narcissistic. Change the subject. Ignore the behavior and only respond when he is acting appropriate.

Tell him that while he's awesome, so are many other people. But that he put himself so high on the totem pole, that you can no longer reach him and may need to change your life around by leaving him.

No laboratory test has been found to be diagnostic of this disorder.

I suggest that you treat him the same way you would treat any one of your children who attempted such a stunt.

He needs to grow up!!
