My PS3 Crashed with 2.40 Update?

My PS3 stopped working after the update. I only get the splash screen with the wavy line. Anyway, I am taking it back and getting a new one since I have the extended warranty thing.

Here's the question: Will I be able to log onto the same account I had on the broken PS3 with the new one? And will I still have my online game info for COD4 and Battlefield Bad Company?

Update:

FYI Guy, I called sony support this morning. They had me do a Hard Reset. No there is no image at all on the screen and was told it was dead and needed service. It will take 2 weeks to get it back, I'd rather just go get a new one today.

Update 2:

Since the PS3 doesn't even boot up to anything I cant do anything to troubleshoot the problem. It's basically bricked at this point.

    Stop where you are. Sony have just pulled the update as there have been allot of reports saying the same as you are. I would wait for an official announcement. I assume they are working on a patch to resolve.

    Should you return it....

    Speaking only for COD4, your stats and everything are kept on a server at Infinity Ward, so they should all still be present. Your save game would be gone though. Not sure about Bad Company.

    Dude you don't have to return it,some people are having some difficulty updating there PS3's just try it again.

    no sorry it is saved on your hard drive and unless you backed up your data before you shipped it you will have to do call of duty again!!! im waiting for the fith one.
