older song (70's ??) with partial lyrics?

at the start of and later in the song, the line of "step right up" is sung. I was very young in the 70's, but if I was to take a guess it sounds like smokey robinson, or maybe the stylistics. it is a slower love song. please answer asap.

thank you for the quick response, but it definately wasnt that song by tom waits. this a soulful love song, really sounds like a smokey robinson type. but I havent found a title of smokeys songs that has those words. thanx again, but not even close to what I was searching for

thank you for the quick answer, but it definately wasnt that song. what I am looking for was a soung that had a soul, rythym & blues type sound. it was played at the end of bernie mac episode at 3:00 a.m 8/17/08 if anybody caught that.

    it was sideshow by blue magic. I saw the very episode you are speaking of about two weeks ago and spent days looking for the song.

    The song is called "Sideshow" by a group called Blue Magic.

    BTW, I saw your question earlier and kind of knew the song..then, while watching a re-run of the Bernie Mac show just now they played it during a scene! Don't you love when stuff like that happens?!

    (I'm adding this to my original answer above..I jumped back to write before I saw the other responses and what you added to your question. So funny that we both saw the show. Anyway, very glad you found what you wanted! And I agree that it's a truly lovely song..a classic.)
