Does the hebrew bible admit the world is old ?
Lately I was talking with a Christian that told me that he have no problem with evolution because the Hebrew bible supports the idea of an old earth, is that correct?

It depends on how you interpret the six days of creation. The Hebrew word for day apparently can be used to mean a general time period. However the use of set and rise of the sun would seem to indicate a standard day.
Regardless, the sequence of events is not correct and does not match the facts.
Edit:
The first five books of the old testament are shared between the two faiths (at least to the best of my knowledge.).

Yes it does and much older than the 6,000 years we mistranslated it to be. The God Yahweh and The Hebrew Bible are not counting the millions of years of prehistoric eras in the six or seven day creation story in the book of Genesis.
Each day doesn't represent a 24 hour time span but an era of evolution consisting of millions of years. When Yahweh says that "Morning came" He means the beginning of an era and when He says "Evening came" He means an end of an era not that the sun rose and set in 24 hours. Again the creation story is only talking about the last six or seven eras of modern evolution and is not counting the millions of years of prehistoric eras. This is the reason for the discrepancy in dating the Earth between Evolutionists and Creationists.

this question is acturally quite discussed theologically and highly debated on.
lets spilt this topic up. acturally you raised two different points
evolution and age of earth
first i'll deal with the age of the earth.
some Christians believe that the age of the earth is billions of years old and to back this up they look through science and they see how it seems like different stages of time new spieces enter the world. hence this group of christians believe that God created the world through a long period of time. Those people are called Old Earth Creationist (OEC)
There are some who believe that God created the world in 7 days just like how the bible says. The gaps in time in which animals entered the world maybe due the fact God created things with age. Most of these Christians will also believe that God created the earth not so long ago around < 10000 yeras ago. This is what Young Earth Creationist believe.
There is also the view of Theistic Evolution which I personally find incapatible with the bible. When i am talking about evolution im talking macro not micro. Theistic evolution is the belief that God used evolution to create the earth. Contorary to popular belief, there are many different 'views' of evolution however none of which in my opnion follows and aligns it self with the bible. this is why i believe this is the least likely version of how the Earth is created from a christian/biblical point of view.
i personally believe in that God created the earth within the last 10 000 yrs. there is science is this theory. if you ever want to look it up the topic is called intellegent design.
hope this helps

An interesting idea I've heard is that just as Adam and Eve were created old and not as babies, so was the earth. Another is that "day" back then didn't necessarily mean 24 hours.

It depends on who you speak to, because the Torah/ Fives Books of Moses included Genesis, which states that God made His creation in six days. Genesis also states God put Adam and Eve in a living (I can't think of the exact word) world, which can make claim for evolution. I just think about how life came from nothing; a process to which no one has found conclusive evidence.

maximum English translations of the Bible at modern-day did no longer go by utilising skill of that sequence. The translators went back to the very historic copies we've of somewhat an excellent style of books and translated them at present from their common languages. whilst the Bible grew to become into as quickly as assembled, there grew to become into as quickly as a variety of books that weren't integrated. The perception interior the minds of those that did so grew to become into as quickly as that those books weren't, particularly, the word of God. that they have been purely texts that some adult adult males and females have been analyzing. many of the excluded texts have been certainly forgeries, having been written long after the existence of the guy or woman claiming authorship.

When James Ussher calculated the age of the Earth to be 6000 years, he used the Bible to do it.
