I know this is a loaded question.... How do you vote?

Looking at ratings for answers given to political questions, ANY time I tell people my political point of view, I get thumb-down vote after vote. When I stick up for someone however, I get alot of votes. Is it a consequence of being in the minority, or the consequence of being too honest? If I assert my point of view and tell you up front why I think the way i do, whats wrong with that?

Stand by your beliefs,no matter what other people think.

That's what political freedom is all about.

I try to be objective and watch that the answer actually addresses the question.

Now thumbing up or down is a different issue. The only reason I would ever give a thumbs down is if the answer insulted the asker or is blatant spam. For answers that require facts, I usually give a thumb up for a thoughtful answer that sites sources if needed. And on opinion questions, the thumb goes up for all those I agree with. I don't bother to answer if someone has already answered with an opinion similar to mine.

I find many questions in this particular category seek validation for the the author's opinions. That's not why I visit Y!As. There are better forums on the internet for that.

There is nothing "wrong" with asserting ones point of view. The "Founding Fathers" stood up for theirs; why can't you?

Alexander Hamilton stood up for what he believed; unfortunately, he was killed by Aaron Burr in a duel.

What hill do you want to die on?

Sometimes I get all thumbs down and zero thumbs up. It never mean anything to me. If people disagree with your comment of course they'll give you a thumb down. Can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen!

I bet you'll give me a thumb down for this one!

Glenn, I've wondered about that with votes on my answers.

For me, it is often about the manner in which a question or response is phrased. Ugly is ugly, no matter the poster's support or non-support of a candidate.

Well if you are like me and smarter than most. You tend to be a little condescending to people who just don't get it. Ron Paul 2008. The same happens to me man don't let it get you down. They really are that stupid. Lol. Spend more money, rebuild another country. Make gas $3.40 a gallon. This guy will stop it and I try and try and try to get people to see it but you can't spell it out for everyone. Law of averages says they have to exist. Doesn't mean you can't try though. Ron Paul 2008!

If you're not getting thumbs down or periodically banned, you really haven't achieved the highest echelons of spirited debate.
