Christians and all...Do we need to protect our Children from the world?
I'm not talking from the criminal activity because that will always be there...but spiritually
Proverbs 22:6
Train up a child in the way he should go,
And when he is old he will not depart from it.
Why or why not?

I do not shelter them from the world, because they must learn to be "in" the world, but not "of" the world. I am teaching them to look at people from God's point of view. To pray for others, but not participate in their destructive or illegal activities. It is important for my children to be a light, and to not hide that light under a bushel.

The truth of the matter is, you can't. You can only protect your children a certain amount. You are correct about the statement in proverbs 22:6, and that's true of Christians and Secularists. If you raise a child to wash a dish as soon as they use it then when they get older you will see that it has become a habit. My mom puts off the laundry--so do I. In the end, your child will make their own choice. My dad is an Evangelist--my brothers only go to church on holidays. I'm attending a Bible College in California. My father, mother, sister, and myself attend church whenever the doors are open. You do the best you can, the rest is up to prayer and your child.

Perhaps a better verse could be James 4:4 and....
(1John 2:15-to-17) Do not love the world, nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him,
(1Jo 2:16) because all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
(1Jo 2:17) And the world passes away, and the lust of it, but he who does the will of God abides forever.
Thanks, RR

I homeschool.
That saves on a lot of garbage being taught to him that he was getting when I did send him.
That scripture is one of my favourites.
However, he is allowed friends [or at least playmates], that are not Christian, nor believers in any faith at all. This is because we don't live in a big area, we just moved here, and the children live next door.
On the other hand, these children use foul language, some have beaten him up [the police were involved last week], they are unruley and have no respect...not all of them...but MOST of them are this way. I had a 10 year old girl use the 'f' word at me because she was mad that I asked someone a question... about 'what' was going on outside... so, bullying isn't only directed at children to children...it is to adults.
I get 'bullied' by one boy, is about 13, and bigger than me [I am about 5'5" and not a tiny woman- no huge...but large]... and strong... well I can't us physical strength on this kid, he would beat the crap out of me... he is huge! He comes right up to my face and yells swear words and lies into my face... like, it is really sad.
We pray for him, and the other children. Because my son, just wants to play. He doesn't want to 'break' into buildings [which they think it's fun to go into abandoned buildings here and destroy the insides], steal, etc. He just want to play in the snow, snow board, play tag... just have fun.
It's sad to see the children so corrupted by the social environment. Sending my son to school, was just a huge melting pot of it...and I had to put an end. When he started breaking out, head to toe, in hives because of stress of going to school... for fear of being beaten up or bullied... I knew, that he needed to come out... and come home. He couldn't learn anything in a classroom, covered with hives because he couldn't concentrate.
It is sad. Kids like to be together. Sheltering them, a bit from the public school system [by the way...we tried a Private school this winter, and it was okay...but not what he needed... they let him go...because they said "that we can't provide for him in a manner that meets his academic needs"... okay...home he comes, home he stays. He has been tested, and is highly intelligent. His vocabulary is way beyond a 9 year old, and he knows more than some adults. He even amazes me sometimes, which is like a breathe of fresh air!!
My son is also, very spiritual. He is developing his own relationship with God and Jesus. He prays, and isn't forced to do 'anything'... he is shown the way... and he freely chooses it.
:-)
We live IN the world. We don't have to BE the world, in the sense that we don't have to be part OF... what happens, we have choice.
IN...Not... OF!!

The "world" has many ways of viewing things, this is human reasoning and according to themselves, they feel correct. Jehovah God has another view which humans need to know- 2 timothy 3:16 " All scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness, vs 17, That the man of God may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work". So God gives parents the responsibility of training their young ones from infancy onward, by teaching them the truth, by word and example. This is the obligation that God places on parents in a loving way.

Well yes in some cases. The world has different beliefs so just make sure they know what the RIGHT belief is. They can still hang out with other kids, but its still good to make sure they have the Holy Mind. By that I mean a mind that is put in the right place. The God place.

Yes. But I think some Christians incorrectly take this as some kind of promise that if they parent their children perfectly, their children will not mess up.
God doesn't have grand-kids and each person makes a choice for themself.

That is a great Bible verse, but with a fatal inherent flaw:
Millions of people truly believe they know how to "train a child up the way he shoudl go," but in reality have no idea what the hell they're doing.
Millions of parents, both Christian and otherwise, f*ck up their children beyond repair. I've seen devout Evangelical Christian parents come into the inpatient psychiatric ward with a daughter who lacerated herself over 200 times in a suicide attempt. The parents believe it is her fault for "going with the devil." She confided in medical personnel that she will successfully kill herself if she has to go back and live with her ultra-religious parents for even another day. I've heard and read about (Atheist) drug-abusing parents raping their children for years and years.
Millions of children all over the world need to be protected from their own parents. So telling parents to do something well without any solid, proven instructions on how to do so is not helpful at all. Proverbs might as well say "do what's right."

From the moment my children were born I stated to tell them about Jesus. They became born-again at a very early age. They have their faults and do things that are not right, but I also know they are in the hands of God and He will bring them through and we will worship God together in heaven forever. I do agree with that verse.

Yes. Because you only need to watch 5 seconds of news to see what becomes of those who are lost to the world. Or if you're like many of us you still recall being lost in the world before Christ.
