What uses most of the power from a watch battery?

What uses more power: doing the timing (using quartz) or physically moving the gears that control the hands (including a second hand)?

    It's the long hand that uses most of the battery. Sometimes when power is dying, you'll see the second hand sometimes moving back and forth in the roughly the same position, it's because that long hand showing the minutes requires more energy to move.

    Probably moving the hands and cogs and that. I would think, but i cant be sure.
