I ran over some large rocks in my 4 cilinder 2003 dodge neon. when I start it the engine is very loud and sounds like it may be hitting something. oil pan and radiator are fine. what could it be?

I think you are right. The rocks probably bent the oil pan up and it is hitting the crankshaft. Although the pan may not be leaking or has a hole in it I think it is crushed up into the moving parts of the motor. Also make sure the oil pressure light goes out as it may have damaged the oil pump tube that draws oil out of the bottom of the pan. Hope this helps.

You may have bent the exhaust far enough that it is hitting the sub-frame. Get it up on a lift and have it checked out. Look at the suspension also. Who knows how hard you hit.
