What is the average Government Pension amount for seniors in England?

In 2007-2008, the full basic State Pension is £87.30 a week for a single person and £139.60 a week for a couple, but your individual circumstances may affect the amount you get.

To receive this you need to have paid National Insurance for 44 years for a man and 39 years for a woman to get a full pension. The age for men is 65 and women is 60 if born before 1950. Add a year to women for every year after 1950 e'g I am 1953 so I won't get mine until I am 63. It most definitely is nowhere near enough to live on. You need an additional private pension to just survive. Many elderly people have to turn off their heating as they cannot afford it.

No its not. I cant remember the exact figure, but so many people fall short of a living income that they invented pension guarantee credit, to bring it up to a decent amount. (and the govt had the nerve to boast about increasing their income) But even on that they struggle. And if by chance youre fortunate enough to have a decent works pension, you get taxed on it, after all those years of paying in. But the good news is if you make it to 75 you dont need a tv licence.
