Once I am on blood pressure medicine will I be on it for the rest of my life?

Possibly. This depends on the reason you need it. There are many causes for high BP.
Many people who take up exercise and modify their diet can reduce their BP so they can cease all medications !!
However if the problem that causes your high BP is not 'modifiable' ( like a physical heart, blood vessel or kidney problem) then you will need to keep on it.

First off, let me state that I AM NOT a doctor or a nurse. I do not work in the medical field at all -- but, I can tell you the experiences my husband has had with blood pressure meds.
Getting your blood pressure under control is not as easy as just going on meds. There will be adjustments as far as what meds work for you and at what dosage. The first med the doctor puts you on MAY not work. Or it may work at a different dosage.
My husband takes a couple of different meds specifically for his blood pressure. It's been rough, though, because it took a while to find the right medication and the right dosage in order to do the job.
Will you be on it for the rest of your life? Quite possibly, yes. You really should be talking to your doctor and asking these questions to him or her -- you will get much more accurate answers than you will asking a bunch of people who you don't know.

Not necessarily. The Dr.will run tests to see if there is a special reason you have high blood pressure. At times losing weight etc will help lower the blood pressure and then the medication can be stopped.

It depends on how severe your blood pressure is. I would advise you to eat 1 glove garlic a day and drink a lot of water, also stay away from salt and excercise frequently. My husband pressure is 280/175 sometimes and he had pressure since he was 18 years old. It also depends on you and your doctor regulating it. Try to stay stress free. Cook your food with herbs. Try baking your food instead of frying. Try to stay away from fast food and eat your vegetable and fruits every day. Please le me know if this answer your questions.
