Determine the size of the baby... based on fundal height???
For starters, let me explain I just arrived in South Korea with my husband (military) about 10 days ago!!! We scheduled a doctors appointment and they did the typical check up stuff - heartbeat (140 bpm) and measured my stomache! I have never had any issues with measuring larger than I should, until now!
Whenthe doctor measured the fundal height, she told my husband and myself, she thought I was going to have a "big" baby based on the measurement of my uterus. I am currently at 35 weeks 1 day (EDD 6 Nov 07) and my uterus measured 36 cm. I didn't think it was a big difference... but she still worried me!
The doctor then asked how big both my husband and myself were at birth (I was 7lb 8oz and Hubby 9 lb 1 oz)... She thought our baby would be somewhere inbetween. Which I am FINE with!
I was just curious if anyone had any experience with this, or if the doctor is estimating low at 8+ lbs????
Being our first baby, I am a bit nervous!
Yes... We are having a baby girl! We are very excited... but like I said before, a little bit nervous about having a baby in a foreign country!!!! Thanks for any advice or help!!!

Don't you worry at all, my first baby (who the doctor (also military) thought was going to be big) was born at 7 pounds, 10 ounces. I was also measuring a bit bigger, but then again, I've always been a bigger woman so that's probaby why. My cousin, who was pregnant at the same time as me (she's the type of woman that weighs 90 pounds, wet!) had her baby and he weight 8 pounds! Go figure, she never told me that the doctors were measuring her big. I think it's just your new doctor and I know how frustrating it can be being in the military and having to change doctors every 3-4 years or so. Your baby will be fine, just take care of yourself and enjoy the little time alone you have left with your DH!!!!

No. If that were the case my first daughter would have been like 11 pounds. She was 6lbs 1 oz and 19 inches long. The measurement is to determine where the baby is (has it dropped any) as well as you growing. Dont panic!! Oh yeah with a 140 heartbeat, are you expecting a girl?

When I had my daughter they had expected her to be 7.5lbs+ based on fundal height and when she was born she weighed 6lbs12ozs so they are not always right with the measurments. Also I measured 1-2cm ahead (w/ fundal) height throughout my pregnancy so I guess you just never know! Good Luck to you!
