I know how you feel ;) I paid top dollar to buy a Stokke Xplory so that I could see my baby in her stroller, and the money was well worth it.

For my stroller, newborns would be facing the person pushing them while lying down on their back. When they are old enough to be sitting up, they face the street. This is the standard fype of stroller in France (where we lived until 6mths ago) and also in Australia. I personally prefer it that way for my child as how boring to stare at me all day! Even in the BabyBjorn carrier I would usually put my daughter facing out and I had strangers coming up to me saying babies preferred facing their mother. Uh, not my baby!! She loved to look at me when nursing, and when tired, etc but when we were out on the town you better believe she was interested in what was going on. If I put her facing me she was constantly trying to turn her neck which was surely going to give her a cramp so I would turn her around pretty quickly.

That's interesting. I never knew there was a difference. My baby's stroller held the car carrier inside when she was little, so I could see her while strolling. Now, though, she faces the street. I think both ways have their advantages. Older babies like to see what's coming ahead. My baby squeals and laughs when she sees a cat or dog, or when someone smiles at her as we stroll along.

Maybe you have a kind relative in Germany who will ship a German stroller to you. I have never seen one like that here.

    Good luck!

Wait, I just found something that might work for you. Here's a link:

I totally agree with you!! I want to see her and know what is going on down there!

I will say that the travel system that we just bought for our new baby has the infant and car seat part facing the pusher and then the stroller part is facing the direction of travel but I wish that was an option.

I know that for older children to face the pusher would be boring but for the little bitty ones it is good and can be found. What we have is a Graco Quarto Travel system.

From what I've seen and personal experience, newborns to about age 3 months the baby will face the mom in the stroller for reasons you mentioned. After that, the baby will benefit from the mental stimulation of seeing the world, and is thus turned around to see something other than mom.

Depending on your babies age, this might work out well. If your baby is still small enough to be in an infant car seat carrier, most of the time they hook onto the strollers. You can actually purchase the car seat carrier/stroller combo. It works out great bec the baby is facing you.

Once children are older (from 6 months on) they want to see what's going on around them. That's why. Besides, most strollers go either way.

Strollers for little babies always have them facing the parent.

i hate that too. thats why i carry my bambino in my baby carriers- pouches, wraps, mei tai's, rebozos, ring slings. all are good to be able to carry your baby on you, have your hands free and to let your baby either face you or face out, but she's always at your eye level so she can see the world, not everyones knees. my storch is my favorite wrap right now and it's german made. check out thebabywearer.com, and enjoy not having to push a stroller!

I hate 'em, soI bought a used, older model that faced me for my baby. I'd rather have a "pram" than a stroller anyday!!!

You know i wondered that myself sometimes. we have the little carriages for babies that face the parent but not for older babies.
