Eloquent doesn't work because colloquial English can certainly be eloquent (although often it is not).

Even colloquialisms can be very eloquent lol. No, I would say the word you're looking for would be "Standard English" - that which gives the fundamentals of spelling, grammar and construction. In Britain itself, it can be amazing how Standard English can be embellished in so many quite different ways from even one town to another in certain areas, just through the use of those colloquialisms that can be so amusing and colorful very often. In fact I believe there are one or two very good books on that whole subject. I seem to remember browsing one at a library years ago, while I was still living there.

I agree with the 1st answer. It IS known as the "Queen's English"

English is after all from England. And Queen is the symbol.

English. To be more emphatic (at the risk of being redundant), "Proper English" or the euphamistic "Queen's English".
