It amazes me that this myth is still going around? Anyone want to buy a bridge - it's going cheap? But only for the first 30 callers ...

Dogs have been fed on the leftovers of human hunts for thousands of years - commercial dog food has been around for about 100. Many people choose to feed their dogs a diet based on raw meaty bones and offal as a more natural eating plan. Dogs are designed to eat carcasses - their teeth, jaws and digestive system are built for meat and bones not grains and cooked kibble. The risk of salmonella is minimal (if worried don't play with their poop) and if you look at pet food recall lists you will see that this problem is not limited to fresh meat by any means. They need this natural diet for their health and that of their teeth and gums. 80% of commercial fed dogs have peridontal disease by the age of three while the teeth of a dog that gets plenty of meaty edible bones will be shiny and white.

Good on you for asking the question and not believing such rubbish. This link may help to answer any questions you have about raw feeding.

No it does not. Many people raise their pets on all raw meat and bone diets and their dogs are not vicious. It is the way you raise your pet that does that. My dog has her CGC and is a certified therapy dog and she eats some raw meat off of the bone (she doesn't care for the actual bones though) and every night her evening meal is a raw meat mixture(organs, eggs and veggies are included) made by Nature's Variety.

not at all, where do you think dog bones come from? a once living animal and every dog in the world that likes bones isn't vicious! the only thing I've read about raw meat is a making the dog sick and b the dog having heart problems from plaque build up from teh fats of the meats... other than that there's nothing at all wrong w/giving a dog raw meat or bones

Nope not at all... Dogs never would have become domesticated at all if this were true.. They would be too vicious to be around people.. Raw meat, and blood don't change a dogs behaviour at all.

NO. There are lots of people who feed their dogs nothing but raw meat (no kibble!).. and their dogs are not viscious at all. Seach for raw feeding groups on yahoo.. you'd be surprised how many people raw feed.

I have given my dogs raw meat and they are still just as sweet as ever.

No, it doesn't make your dogs vicious, but feeding your dogs raw meat will cause the dogs to get salmonella and other health problems. Do a search on Google "dogs eating raw meat" and you will see the various answers to your question. As for feeding bones to the dogs, is not good for their teeth, it can cause a lot of dental damage to their teeth.

I have fed my dogs with the following fresh food for many months and they have been very healthy since the pet food recall. Every week, I made steam one type of veggie (carrots, peas, corn, sweet potato, potato, broccoli, cabbage) that is safe for dogs to eat and one type of protein source (boiled chicken breast, eggs). They love carrots, peas, corn and sweet potato, potato but hate broccoli and cabbage. Then add it to their dry kibble food. They are very healthy dogs.
