You're right, it's a fascinating situation. Ironically the fact that Hamilton achieved so much so quickly may work against him if he has a less successful end to the season. It's common knowledge that the British press (tabloids in particular) are ruthless, and if their "hero" and potential sportsperson-of-the-year Hamilton doesn't win more races and at least challenge for the title, they may turn against him. That is, until he starts winning again!

I don't see how it would be disappointing if Lewis didn't win. He's a rookie, let him get used to things in F1.

Even if he came 3rd overall he'll have exceeded everyone's expectations.

Plus, if you think it's rare in F1 for a Brit to do well, try to remember that Britain has produced more world champions than any other country so far. 12 in total.

Even if you split Britain into its separate nations then we still have a very good record.

England has the equal second most champions, 7 (tied with Germany) and Scotland has had 5 champions which means they'd be tied for third with Argentina.

Only Brazil has a better record with 8 world champions.

The whole country has to get behind our guy especially as he has a cheating scumbag of a "team mate" Go Hamilton!

It's giving us all a boost. Even if he doesn't win the championship it will have been the most interesting and exciting season for years.

i'd love to see davidson, button, coulthard and hamilton in ferrari and mclaren fighting it out..
