It would be difficult trying to answer your question unless you give a specific example of something haram which you think is not haram as ordained by Allah but has ben declared so by people.

In general, you will find quite clear guidelines in Quran about halaal and haram. However, you must know that Quran is a book of guidelines, the interpretation and application of those guidelines is hadeeth. The rule to follow hadeeth is that wherever it is following Quran it is considered right and whereever there appear any deviation, it is then left in favor of superior Quranic injunction (keeping in mind the element of human intervention in narration of hadeeth).

As I said earlier, Quran is a book of guidelines. So you would not find written anyehre in Quran exactly that to eat a vulture is haraam, for example, but this is a direct interpretation from the general guideline which forbids eating animals which prey on the dead.

In addition, Quran gives a very simple rule of tackling uncertain situations. When in doubt and in a grey region, it is obviously safe to stay in white rather than black. What we call in project magement "making a conservative estimate" to increase the possibility of achieving the right result.

Many people (including imams) say things are haram but cannot give a reason. For example, Music. For me, Music makes life more fun. Many have said that it is haram although it is not in the Quran. I believe that Muhammad (PBUH) has forbidden some instruments to be played, ok what about the rest? They say that music keeps you away from the Quran What if I read the Quran all the time but sometimes need to listen to some music. You should have noticed that everything that Allah has forbidden is bad for you, like adultery, alcohol, gambling, stealing ..... etc. but how can music harm you? What about TV? many people do not have TV's at home and say its haram. Well, it can be haram if you watch porn all the time or similar channels, but yet the TV can be very beneficial. Well, selling stuff is halal, when does it become haram, when you cheat people. You get what I am saying? There needs to be a reason for everything!!!

I usually dont go deep in these subjects because I do not want to say what's haram or halal as Allah is the only one knows. Just try to keep yourself away of whatever is known to be haram, and those things that are debatable, if its easy to keep away, then do. I do not listen to Music much, although I still did not get a satisfying answer of why it is haram. But it might be, who knows? Allah does.

The Quran tells us those who believe, believe in the Quran and the sunnah of Prophet Mohammed(pbuh). So, whatever Prophet Mohammed(pbuh) has told is is Haraam then it is haraam. We are no Prophets to second guess Prophet Mohammed(pbuh).

I want to add this is a big problem for many Muslims. They do not understand that we must follow the Sunnah of Prophet Mohammed(pbuh) even if they disagree with it. We do not have the right to change Islam for self gratification.

If you do not know the Quran that is no ones fault other then your own. The Quran clearly states those who believe follow the Quran and the sunnah of Prophet Mohammed(pbuh). What is there to argue. Other then you must want some things to be halal which are not. Islam is a perfected religion and it is a SIN to change it.. not a small sin but a BIG SIN. Think about how your speaking of Prophet Mohammed(pbuh). Like he is just some simple man. He is a Prophet of Allah(swt) and we all should respect this.

Prophet Mohammed(pbuh) was sent with messages of the Quran and Hikmah...read the second chapter of the Quran ...Read Al-Imran, read An-Nisa, read Al A'raf, read all the chapters in the Quran and it tells those to follow Prophet Mohammed...

Again, you address Prophet Mohammed(pbuh) in such a poor manor are you sure your a Muslim? I can almost bet your a convert that has read many a few verses and now your an expert....If you want an exciting life why don't you just become an nonbeliever and sell yourself and do drugs and behave in Islamic ways?

Islam defines very clear parameters of what is Halal and Haraam, and there are general rules as well, for Muslims to decide as per situation to situation.

Like one of the general rules is, anything slaughtered on which Allah's name is not mentioned (or the name of someone other than Allah is mentioned), is Haraam.

So in this way all Halaal animals, when slaughtered without following the right Islamic way, turns into Haraam. Muslims have to decide it as per the situation and with their best knowledge of Islam.

Regarding the authority given to Muhammad pbuh, to make something Haram or Halaal is described in detail in above answers. I would like to say that the Messenger of Allah, Muhammad pbuh was being closely monitored and well in touch with Allah swt, directly and through angel Gabriel.

Any thing, he announced and Allah swt did not send warning to obsolete it, it means the saying of Muhammad pbuh, has become a law/obligatory for us.

There are examples of some cases, as sister Marhama has given above, that Muhammad pbuh forbidden something and Allah swt later on canceled the order of Muhammad pbuh by a revelation.

There are some things disliked by Muhammad pbuh, called "makrooh", not haram but better not to do.

Well, from your question, I hope I'm not wrong to say that you don't believe in hadith. Quran indeed is perfect for Muslims but does not necessarily have details on what God means in his Words. God's Messengers roles are not only giving Words of God to humankind, but to teach and interprete those Words as well. For example, God command us to pray but never reveal how to pray. Thus it is taught by the Prophet Muhammad or else Muslims will have to interprete it themselves and result in thousand versions of praying.

The same case with zakat, fasting, Hajj and to decide which one is forbidden or not. Who else is better to interprete Quran than the Prophet himself? Furthermore, Quran expressly command us to obey not only God, but His Messenger as well. As you said, God will immediately rebuke Muhammad if he made his own rule which means whatever he said is guided by God. If the Prophet continuously made his own without God's agreement, you will see Quran is full of corrections and rebukes of Muhammad's words.

You may be having problems with hadith as there are thousands of false hadiths out there. You should check for those that have been recognised as authentic and do not contradict with Quran.

I think our real problem is some so-called Muslim scholars (ulama) who have extreme views and forbid many things although not mentioned by God and His Messenger, and false hadiths as well.

Do you remember when Muhammad said that honey was haram for him, because her wife served honey and made him stay with his wife longer than what he should be, then Allah sent down this verse

'O you prophet, why do you prohibit what GOD has made lawful for you, just to please your wives? GOD is Forgiver, Merciful.'

I guess everyone else answered this one pretty well. All praise and glory is to Allah (God). I would just like to add that it has been Prophesied that there would come a time before the day of judgment when people would abandon the Sunnah. Allah (God) knows best!

Everything is Halal except otherwise mentioned in the Quran or Sunna.

Allah سبحانه و تعالى gave the prophet صلى الله عليه و السلام the right to legislate...

"And obey Allah and the messenger, that ye may find mercy." 3:132

"

O ye who believe! Obey Allah, and obey the messenger and those of you who are in authority; and if ye have a dispute concerning any matter, refer it to Allah and the messenger if ye are (in truth) believers in Allah and the Last Day. That is better and more seemly in the end." 4:59.

This last verse means that The Prophet had the right to legislate, and we have the obligation to obey.

The restriction was that Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم can not forbid things that Allah سبحانه و تعالى said they're Halal.. It didn't happen actually.

Everything said by the prophet is legislation because: "Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire." 53:3. Unless God modifies his words, which means that Allah knew that they're of great importance and signifcance as legislation, so he modified them when it was necessary.

Islam is backwater cult which still is stuck in the 15th century. It is an intolerant religion hell bent on taking us back to the stoneage and make us all live in terror with extremely sick, brutal and harsh punishments not only to the guilty, but innocence.

What is mentioned in the Qur'aan to be haraam is haraam and what the Prophet mentions to be haraam is haraam BECAUSE the Prophet's Hadeeth is revelation and not from his desires (from the Qur'aan: Surat an-Najm verses 3-4).
