What was your best garage sale bargain find?

What stands out as the best bargain you ever found at a garage sale?

I found an old carrier for 45rpm records at a garage sale (like the ones girls would take to sleepovers in the 50s and 60s). It was completely filled with just about every Elvis Presley 45 and 45EP (extended play--four songs instead of two) ever made--mint condition most even had picture sleeves instead of the regular paper sleeves. She had them priced at 5 cents each, I bought the entire box for $2. I paid for an entire year of college (tuition, books, living expenses, fun etc) with the proceeds.

A terrific, etched glass wine carafe with a snap-on lid for 10 cents!

(coming from a 14 year old who has had a lot of experience in selling at garage sales, going to garage sales, selling at flea markets, buying at flea markets, going to thrift shops, donating to thrift shops.) Yeah, I was raised the frugal way :D Well, when you are having a garage sale, people will only pay really cheap prices. Even if you did have a Coach purse, you still have to put aside your thoughts of what YOU paid at the store, and think that you are selling something used. You can't sell your stuff for as much as you paid because your garage sale isn't a store. I find coach purses all the time and sometimes pay as little as $3. It doesn't matter if you have stuff that's worth a lot, you still have to go cheap, cheap, cheap! Good bargains for clothes are like $1 apiece (even if you have Juicy Couture shirts, you still have to go cheap!). Purses maybe $3-$4. So I must agree with the lady that $5 was a good price for the purse because it was old and used. You just have to think in the customers' shoes. And you can negotiate if you feel the price is crazily cheap. Like you could have said, "how about $7 for the purse." And if she still won't pay that, then just politely say "Sorry, but that's my limit." Don't just walk away. Hope I helped :) Maybe if you go to garage sales more often, you can see what stuff goes for normally.

This August I'm starting a new teaching job at a new school and grade level. I recently found out I needed (or wanted anyway) kids' books for my classroom, so I started looking around for some that I could get cheap. I then found a lot of books on clearance at a used book store that were a dollar or less each, so I was able to stock up and get a good start on my collection. Praise God for that one. I'm still looking and gerting others here and there, but so far that one time was the best deal.
