I want to become an entrepreneuer, would it be helpful to study business in college?

I have great business ideas but I feel as if I'm lacking a lot of the basics, such as finances and the legal aspects of it all. Do you think that studying business would be helpful in my goal of having my own business or is it just a waste of time. If it is how else can I learn more about business basics?

Don't study business during college. Business at an undergraduate level is a waste of your time, because it's a soft subject until you go for your MBA where it gets serious.

Instead, study subjects that will directly help you in starting your own business and help it grow. Here are a list of courses or subjects you should aim to study in college:

    - Microeconomics

    - Macroeconomics

    - Intermediate Microeconomics

    - Economic Statistics

    - Econometrics

    - Corporate Finance

    - Priciples of Accounting I & II

    - Business Law I & II

    - Federal Income Taxation

    - Business Taxation

    - Managerial Accounting (Cost Accounting)

This is really everything you need to know so that you can start your own business successfully. Now, courses on Management, Leadership, Motivation, Entrepreneuership.. are all a waste of time in college.

I hope that helps, Best of Luck on your new business.

Starting your own business is not just about having a few good ideas. You need to have a strong understanding of finance, accounting, business laws, etc... Most companies fail because they understand all the different aspects of running a successful company. If you don't want to go to college you can start by taking a small business course at a local adult community school. Also, partnering with someone with some expertise might be helpful

A degree in business will be a good start, but that will not determine how good an entrepreneur you will be. Getting into business with people that have been in the industry and learn from what they did is an excellent way especially with a degree under your belt.Network marketing is a wounder full way to do that.Low investment ,do what it takes ,and learn from the millionaires.I own a home based Internet travel business that have taught me more than the 17yrs in co-operate whorld.www.adatravelbiz.com

Yes. Definatly Business Class helps a whole lot. School in Business teaches you the fundamentals of everything including numbers, taxes, promotion, branding, finances, investments, the goods and the bads, management, and basically everything you need to know. Basically from every teacher I've had, the all said to be a successful entrepreneur, you have to have real passion for what you want to do. YOU have to love your business in order for people to love your business. Very simple. My brother is in business class and he loves it. My dad owns his own business and so do I. It's wonderful owning your own business and watch it flourish. I always suggest to everyone to do business classes or read a lot of books on your own because to tell you the truth, school is basically people who have read those books and telling you about it. The plus side is that ALL of them have experience in it and decided to be teachers and tell you what to do and what not to do. Usually they've had a minimum of 3-5 businesses, so they know what they're talking about.

It's fun and very informative. You might knock your brain out trying to understand a few things, but it's well worth it. Believe me when I say those business teachers want to help. They love when people want to open up a business. They'll give you so many contacts, you wouldn't know what to do with them. Though after business school, you'll know exactly what to do with them. I know I love it when people want to open up their own business.

See what you can find, and good luck with everything! You say you have lot's of ideas, I say you have the potential to be great!

    Hope this all helps!

While college is really important, don't forget that there are also other sources. Most colleges will have some sort of "small business develepment" courses. These are great because they go over the basics that you will need to start your business.

Studying business would help you recognize common mistakes that cause many startups to fail, giving you a better chance of success. Having a great business idea doesn't mean much if you can't pay your workers!
