Is there anything in your own religion that troubles you?

This is a question for people of all faiths.

Is there anything in the scripture, doctrine or practice of your religion that you don't understand, that is in contradiction to your overall sense of right and wrong, anything that is too hard to follow or that makes you doubt your religion?

Can you be honest in this?

People going to hell bothers me, but I accept the rules God made.

This is a very good question, and I would have to say that the answer has been different at different times in my life.

Like when I was in high school, I had a really hard time with the whole dressing modestly thing. I didn't want to dress skanky, I just wanted to wear what all the other girls in my school were wearing - just to feel normal. I've long since gotten over that, and feel that my own, individual style is much cooler anyway.

Ummm, today, probably some of the "stereotypical cultural" aspects can bother me; particularly when some members confuse culture with doctrine. Like some people assume that if your of this religion then you should also be of this or that political party, etc.

I am LDS, and I have been a lifelong member. I have an extremely firm commitment to it and a "testimony" that it contains the truth. I have studied the doctrines all of my life and understand them pretty good I feel. All of the doctrines make sense to me and are logical, necessary, and of divine origin. I understand the reason and purpose behind the doctrine of plural marriage, that is, women outnumbering men in the early church required and needed the support of a man to complete the eternal requirement of marriage.

However I would find that to be a very difficult doctrine to follow. I am glad that it is no longer practiced by the LDS Church today. It would have been very hard to follow.

Since we don't have scripture or doctrines that must be adhered to, there's nothing there I find troubling. Our basic faith involves the inherent worth and dignity of all people which we take very seriously.

My religion, in general, supports abortion rights. I also support those rights but personally could not have an abortion. It does contradict my belief in the sanctity of life. Yet I also realize that there are many reasons that a woman would make that choice and understand it is a personal decision.

That one issue draws a line between individual rights and the sanctity of life for me, yet it is certainly not enough to make me doubt my religion. We are indeed encouraged to think for ourselves.

Sure, I have approx one million questions for God and Jesus when I get to Heaven. There are so many things in the bible that I don't understand or think makes a lot of sense. Example, how did Noah fit all the animals of the world on a wooden ship. I strike it up to faith and just have to wait for the future to have my questions answered. BUT, this does not cause me to doubt my belief in God or Jesus.

I guess the Bible in general. So controversial, so much things left out, it's been written and re-written and practically manmade. I was raised Catholic, and although I keep a steady belief in God, I don't disparage other things such as karma, reincarnation, and such. That's why I like Gnostic beliefs, they simply make more sense to me although many deem it heresy and cult-like (which its not though some people may take it too far).

Since my religion stresses personal responsibility, it's a bit hard to be bothered by the religion itself. You usually end up being bothered by your own behavior in my faith. That's all on the individual, not on any God, Goddess or 'devil'.

I don't have any doubts about God or Jesus. I do however have many doubts about individual church doctrines. I do not practice a particular denomination for that very reason. I use prayer and listening to what is in my heart to determine my beliefs.

Plenty. Hinduism if full of contradictions.

Because it is actually a philosophy, that involves some aspect of God. At the core, God is just another name for everything. You could replace the word God(Brahman) with science, or "the universe", or "existance." At the core there is little religion. Same with Buddhism.

Sure there are things in the Catholic faith that I do not understand. It is up to us to try to study these things.

I still prefer this to shopping around until I find a group that fits my needs. I think we are to fit Gods law.

    Peace!

Nothing about Christianity troubles me. However, like all things powerful to the human psyche -it is open to such abuse by those seaking to use its power, that many turn away from what is good due to what is not good. We're all still in the learning stages. God bless you all.
