Can Guiliani actually win the GOP nomination?

Will Republicans actually vote for a candidate who is not opposed to abortion? Or will he flame out when his stance on the issue becomes more widely known?

His administration in NYC was actually hugely corrupt, most people in other areas of the country just know him from 9/11.

He recommended total sleazeball Bernard Kerik to Bush as Homeland Security Chief, and then had to apologize after word of Kerik's background came out, serious lapse of judgement.

In addition to the abortion thing, he has been married thrice and his history has included adultery.

In the 90's, Republicans went on and on and on about the "character issue", when it came to Clinton and how that somehow should have disqualified him for the Presidency... Then again, I suppose that doesn't necessarily stop them from selectively disregarding their stated "core principles" and voting for Rudy, they do that every day after all.

    You mean this Giuliani?

Giuliani is arrogant, bigoted, ill tempered and a womanizer. He divorced his 2nd wife, Donna Hanover, by announcing it at a press conference instead of telling her in person first. He was having an affair with an aide while living at Gracie Mansion & while still married and mayor of NYC while taking credit for all the good things that were done by others in “the city”. He fired William Bratton; the police commissioner in 1994 when he found out he made the cover of Time magazine because he (Giuliani) wanted to take the credit for the innovative crime fighting. I lived in NY during his dictatorship, and believe me; I would not want him as president. His character is far worse than Bush & Clinton's worse faults rolled into one, if you can believe that's possible. Even his own kids don’t talk to him, now, what does that tell you? His name should be Mussoliani.

As for 9/11…. he’s no hero, he just happened to be in the right place at the right time. The real heroes of 9/11 were the NYC firefighters & police plus all the other rescue workers from the surrounding tri-state areas who voluntarily came to pitch in & help us.

He can win the nomination and the presidency. It is going to turn off some people but he will gain some too. He did state that he will nominate strict constructionist judges and that is all that a president can do to affect the issue. He sounds like the strongest Republican to me right now and the guy to beat.

If abortion doesn't sink him, the gun issue will. Republicans are conservative and Rudy is carrying too much liberal baggage. It's sad in a way, because the man has more guts than anyone else in the race, and let's face it, he had to suck up to get along and go along in New York, but the Republican base isn't going to want to hear that, especially in Texas. Trust me on this.

Yes, he could win it and has a very good chance.

Intelligent voters base their voting decisions on the totality of a candidate and not one issue.

I hope so. I am a conservative, I guess, and I think he would do a good job. Too many people think that if you are left or right, there is no gray area. Come on people, just because your party says one thing, do you REALLY have to agree with it? Use you own mind and actually think instead of following.

Why wouldn't the GOP elect two liberals in a row?
