is my one parakeet a female or is it because the keet is molting?
i have two parakeets which are healthy,lovely and very active.i had them for 3 months now and when i got them both their ceres were blue which indicates they are males.lately i discovered that one keets cere has changed color to a more beige like.it`s still a little blue on the edges.now i`m not sure if i just got a real young bird who just developed the cere`s color and is a female or if something might be wrong with him.maybe it`s just because the bird is molting.i want to make sure.
well i guess it is what i thought it was.no big deal we have a girl.i assumed it since females tend to be more aggresive and that keet is a *****.lol i guess i have to change the name now.but houdini decribed the bird`s personality so well.any name suggestions or should i stay with the name houdini?

I think it sounds like a female. They all start out with blue-ish ceres, and the females turn to the brown or tan color.
Males will turn a real dark blue.

As you know the cere changes color with age revealing a keet's true sex. Houdini is a last name Wilhelmina was his wife. The choice is yours. Have a tweet year.

It sounds like that bird's cere has only just developed its real colour. Alot of baby birds look like boys when they are little. If it is a female its not a big deal. Unless you provide them with a nesting box they wont breed.
