The axles aren't broke! The constant velocity joints are bad (from running with broken "boots" and all the grease got out) "CV" joints lubricated with dirt and sand don't last long!

There are 2 "CV" joints on each axle, and they all could be bad!

Unfortunately the $400-500 guess could be about right, -if both axles have to be totally replaced, and you have it done by GM mechanics!.... In little "mom & pop" garage somewhere you may get by with "rebuilt axles", - (will work just as good as new!) And it might run you around $200 or a little more!

you are looking at around $300-$500 for both axles and the labor to do it. Not that big of a job but it just depends on the labor rate your garage charges. Rebuilt axles can run anywhere from $60 a piece to $150 a piece. You are money ahead to purchase the axles yourself to avoid the garage mark up. This should save you quite a bit on parts anyway. Normally I can do both axles in less than 2 hrs...but that's just me...garages go by book rate...so what ever their book tells them is the normal time X their hourly rate is what it will cost plus the cost of parts.

I suggest calling local repair shops to get an accurate price I Had one replaced on a car I had and it only cost me $139 so if you shop around you might be able to find someone to do the job for a good price

Parts....half shaft (rebuilt) 100 bucks each. Labor....around 500 bucks...that's the high side. Basically the CV joints went bad. It's an all day job. If it's done right, you should not need any alignment, but if the mechanic doesn't know the "tricks", then it will need the alignment after all of the work is done. Good luck.

Around the Chicago area they should run you about 85.00 to 120.00 per axle and if you have them done figure on about 100.00 per axle.

It would be best for you to go to a junk yard, because if you go to a dealership then they will charge you out the ***!! LOL

**P.S. how on earth did you break both of your axles?**
