I own a 1998 Suzuki Esteem station wagon and I need to know about the timing belt..?
If the timing belt breaks, will that event destroy the engine? I don't know for sure what type of engine I have, but I know some engines if the timing belt breaks the engine will not be destroyed, but I know in some engines the breaking of the timing belt wrecks the engine (example: 1980's models of the Ford Escort).

No you don't have a resistance motor,,it wont hurt the valves or the piston,,but i would replace it before it does break,,its easier that way,,but all it will do if it does break is leave you stranded somewhere,,and they are also harder to set the timing on when they break,, i own a repair shop and we do timing belts a lot,,usually before they break,,after late 1992 all cars had been modified so that it don't mess the engine up,,i been at this 35 yrs,,and remember the big escort thing,,we stayed really busy then,,replacing belt,s on them,,good luck,,hope this helped you.

INTERFERENCE ENGINE
If the timing belt breaks on an interference engine, mechanical engine damage occurs. It most commonly involves open valves being struck by pistons, resulting in the need for expensive repairs. In extreme cases, a replacement engine may be required.
Your engine is not an INTERFERENCE ENGINE ....

almost all new cars and trucks with a "belt will have bad effents i know a geo metro wont be hurt by it or my friends wasent anyway
