Prince phillip was married to the queen so why wasnt he a king?

Men don't get titles from women. Philip was actually in  the line of succession, but somewhere past spot #50 or so.  When they married, we was a plain "Mister." The  then king made him a Duke, and on  their 10th wedding anniversary, the Queen made him a Prince as a present.

To be a king or a reigning monarch, one has to be in the line of succession and INHERIT the position. Philip was not heir to the throne. Elizabeth was the heir to the throne of her father, George VI.

In the UK, men do not assume the titles and status of their wives, they have their own. So, the husband of a queen regnant, the reigning monarch, is not called king consort or king. The spouse of a queen regnant is her consort with no powers to reign, and uses his own titles.

Prince Philip was born a Prince of Greece and Denmark. He gave up his foreign titles to become a naturalized British citizen. His father-in-law made him a royal duke, earl, and baron. Philip's wife, Elizabeth, bestowed him a Prince of the United Kingdom, his chosen title, after a long debate on what his titles would be.

@ Kieth:  Philip is a second and third cousin of Elizabeth's so he was in the line of succession, but too far down ever to inherit the title.

Husbands of Queens who reign in their own right are not kings. 

That is why Queen Victoria's husband was Prince Albert, 

and Queen Anne's husband was Prince George of Denmark..

Yoiu don't KNOW why?   A King trumps a Queen and it's the Queen who has the line to the Throne, not her late husband.   It was the same with Queen Victoria and her husband Albert who was also never King.

Because he wasn't a descendent of the king, Elizabeth is. Seriously, you aren't even British, stay out of the tea garden.
