A knock for 'yes' ; two for 'no' is limited when contacting a spirit : but what could three, four etc. knocks signify ?

    Such a "system"

    is always established between two parties (whether real or imaginary)

    by PRIOR AGREEMENT.

    There's not some universal rule

    - "You spirits: you have no choice in the matter whatsoever. One knock always means 'Yes'. Two knocks always means 'No'. It's Universal Spirit Code that all Spirits helplessly follow."
