Will Florida Move Its Capital?

The capital of Florida has been in Tallahassee since 1824.  In that year, the only significantly inhabited part of Florida was the Panhandle.  Since Tallahassee is approximately midway between St. Augustine and Pensacola, Tallahassee seemed like a central location for the state capital.

Today, however, the centrally-located major metropolitan areas of the state are Orlando and Tampa-St. Petersburg.  The Panhandle is an area that would be much happier if it were ceded to Alabama or Georgia, depending on which side of the Apalachicola River we are talking about.  Some people refer to the West Panhandle as LA (Lower Alabama).

Does Florida have any plans to move its state capital to a more central location, where most of the population lives?

There are many states where the capital is nowhere near the most heavily populated areas- California and New York, for example. What does that have to do with anything? Do you know how much it would cost to move a capital? And the number of staffers who would have to be uprooted? Changing the address on the stationery alone would cost taxpayers millions. Doesn't Florida have better things to do with it's tax money?

They would  if they could only  find a spot  (thanks to Gov . Killer DeSantis)  in Florida that hasn't become totally infested by Covid .

There is no requirement or expectation that a state capital be centrally located or near populated areas.  There are many states where that is not the case.  FL has no plans to make such a move; there is no reason for it at all.
