How do you think parents can explain to younger children that they will have fewer and less costly presents this Christmas?
This Q is about parents who have a reduced income this year because of COVID 19, and where the children are young enough to believe in Father Christmas/Santa Claus. How can it be explained that Christmas will be lower key and fewer presents this year, should parents disillusion children about Father Christmas at a younger age than they otherwise would? No good parents want to see their children upset, especially at Christmas, so how can they explain they may not get the costly gifts on their wish list.

Honesty is the best policy. Explain when and where the tradition of gift giving started. Tell them the real story and how advertising gave it a little twist to commercialize and fantasize it. Explain that money is short this year but the good news is that they will get some gifts.
Talk about the meaning of Christmas and that it's really about pleasing the ones you love.

Just tell them that some elves had COVID and had to shut the toy shop down for a while so you might not get as much. Another route is to admit that Santa isn’t real
