I'm doing a Data Scientist intership, but so far they've given me only data cleaning and architecture tasks, should I leave or be patient?

I'm in the 2nd month and I've seen no machine learning whatsoever, they've basically just given me Data Engineering tasks, I'm not saying I want to skip these parts of the pipeline that I recognize are important to master, but it's completely missing the machine learning part, which is the main reason I decided to pursue the Data Science carreer.

The company I work for is very big (3000+ employees), but it's not a tech company and there's only another data scientist and he's not even really a Senior Data Scientist, we're literally at an embryonal stage, maybe it's just the initial phase and in the future they'll make me do the cool stuff but still, the job was for a Data Scientist and they're giving me only Data Engineering tasks, what should I do?

Should I start looking for another place? Or wait for the data science project in our company to grow?

The internship is usually more about learning the business and workflow side of things, rather than the actual skills of the job.  It's also about you establishing a reputation of showing up and performing the tasks assigned to you.  If you stick it out and do your best, you'll have a solid reference from this place (and perhaps even a job offer).  That is what you can expect to get from virtually any internship.

Talk to the guy already in the position you want.  Can he/she train you.
