What the heck is the deal with toilet paper?
Every store on the planet is out of TP...!?!? I was supposed to go out with friends and vandalize my old high school -- but I can't!!!
How does the freaking supply chain work? Or... is everybody waiting outside the store and just buying the restocked paper as soon as they open?
But... mostly... okay... so ... I get that people are worried about being stuck in their houses, so maybe buy some extra ... but most of them don't have groceries that are going to outlast a typical amount of TP... so they're going to have to go (or send someone else) shopping to restock ... so why the crazy rush on TP?!?!
I've always just purchased one of Costco's giant packs and then restock when it gets down to about 50% and that last multiple grocery trips ... even still with lock-down, maybe a couple trips -- before perishables will have gone bad if not eaten.
So, maybe the real question ... is there a large percentage of the population that was not buying toilet paper prior to the Corona virus?! What the heck were these people doing with their poop!!!??!?!!?!??

I'm like you--I keep stocked up--my brother on the other hand keeps as little on hand as possible--when I called him the other day he was down to half a roll---I am not sure what that says about our respective personalities--but I am sure you could analyze it...its the same as when people let their gas tanks get really low--that would scare the crap out of me!! (but I do have that tp! lol)

If you are going to go out and play immature silly and childish games with toilet paper, I suggest you take the toilet paper out of your own bathroom and go use it to play outside.
Oh, I forgot, there are no bathrooms under the bridge.
People are hoarding toilet paper because they do not realize there is no shortage. What we are experiencing is a false shortage because enough toilet paper has been produced, as usual, for everyone who needs it. The problem is that ignorant people are buying more than they need so there is not enough left on the shelves to go around.

I'll alert the media. What's the name of your "old high school?" I'd like to get their perspective on the subject.

No, you're all wrong! Lots of people just didn't buy toilet paper before CoViD-19!!!

Without getting into all the details, when something starts to get in short supply, everyone wants a stockpile. In 1973 USA, a toilet paper shortage was created by a talk show host. They call it a mixed truth because the basis was something he picked up on, but by getting it on a popular talk show, it spread:

If people believe something is in shortage, they buy all they can. That creates an actual temporary shortage until the supply chain can catch up. Then, there is an excess for a while.
When gasoline supply is down, everyone tries to fill their tank and that creates a bigger shortage.
I had most of a double roll 30 pack (60 single equivalent), and also a coupon for $1 off and saw the 30 packs when a shortage was beginning, so grabbed an extra.
I gave some away to be generous.
Meat, medical supplies, frozen dinners, canned pasta, canned tuna, etc all went shortage at retail.
My pantry is like a small supermarket because I plan to be home for another 3 weeks. I do need some cat food. Amy only likes Sheba Seafood Pate and Purina Naturals Original formula. I only have a week's left.

People hear from their friends and neighbors, "Now be sure you don't run out of toilet paper! Paper napkins, paper towels, Kleenex, or anything cloth will plug up the plumbing big time!"
Maybe people are buying extra for folks who can't get out to the store themselves.
Maybe it's simply mass hysteria. I think sociologists will be studying this particular shortage situation.
In our family, each of us uses up an average of one roll a week. We have sixteen rolls. That should last us until the worst is over.
