Why would anyone lie about the shape of the earth or the moon or whatever?

I think it's just a few people being contrary... they like the feeling of being 'different.'

I think *very few* actually believe it - and go out of their way denying the many proofs there are.

What has common sense got to do with it?, people will believe just about anything if they are told an obvious lie repeatedly.

There are people who are actually gullible enough to believe whatever they've been told, and the "flat Earthers" are in that group. Back in the days of the Roman Empire, there were people who believed Earth was held up by a giant named Atlas. Another group believed that Earth rested on the back of a giant tortoise. No one said what Atlas or the tortoise were standing on, however. If Earth is flat, then why don't ships fall off the edge at some point instead of reaching a destination on the opposite side of the world? There are photos that show the curve of the earth. The flt-Earth theory is based on ignorance.

Moat people who assert the earth is flat know perfectly well that all heavenly bodies, including the earth, are spherical. But they really don't care about truth, they only want create the chaos of doubt. And for the small number who actually believe the earth is flat, well that's what they have to believe to make the rest of their world conform to their willful ignorance.

If you can get people to accept one oh-so-obvious lie, then you can get them to accept any other lie. This is very important when, for example, you are trying to influence a whole country to vote for the wrong person.

Finding sense in the senseless is a meaningless task.

Flatties are generally morons who cant understand basic physics, so you cant expect them to some up with a *reason* for promoting a globe earth model.

Having said that, there are some of them who are obviously bible nuts. for them it's all about satan and demons turning people away from the bible

Some are conspiracy theorists, for whom the reason is simply *they are out to get us*. the theory is that any big enough organization lies and big organizations lie big. the counterpoint to this is that a lot of them are trumpists and infowars addicts, who - despite obvious and repeated lies - can be trusted bigly.

a few have made the comment that NASA is in it for the money, so they have to promote the globe earth to get more money for........... err, well that's as far as it goes really. The cost of research and hardware doesnt really figure into this account

I recall seeing a video where George Soros was mentioned as someone who benefits........... but, then again, whenever loonies get together to talk, for any reason, George Soros is going to be mentioned
