Before you go defending abolishing Electoral College as the decider of Presidential vote, did you know we are a Republic, not Democracy?
The crucial difference is that in a Republic, minority opinion is protected. Which is also why lower courts can make decisions that affect the whole country.
It is called checks and balances.

the boys wished to avoid upheaval such as occurred in the french revolution, thousand of beheadings and unjust imprisonment happened during it
the electoral college serves as an accelerator governor or an automatic shift from high gear to slow the vehicle so it does not careen down hill & wreck.
states making up the sparser populated agrarian west are allowed the same representation as mobbed big cities.eeeeequality liberals sounds great donit?

Yes, of course. Anyone who wants to abolish the electoral college knows exactly what it does...which is why they want to abolish it. Lots of people might use the wrong term, but calling the country a republic doesn't magically make the electoral college the best system. What matters is the process, not the name.

It’s a constitutional republic, you forgot that part. Constitutional. Government of the people, for the people and by the people. That doesn’t mean just a minority of the people. It means the majority of the people. And yes, it’s also a democracy. And lower courts are overruled by higher courts all the time by the way.

You would need an amendment to the Constitution to abolish the electoral college. So little chance of this happening. I like it that the smaller states have some say in this matter. And not just the California's, New York's and Florida's, etc.

Lower courts can only make decisions that effect the area of their jurisdiction. Only the Supreme Court can make decisions that effect the entire nation.

We are a Constitutional Republic, who's constitution sets up a representative democracy as it's main method of functioning.

The popular vote is the most anti-democratic thing that ever spawned on the face of the planet. If the outcome were solely depended upon the popular vote, the entire population of New York and California would determine the outcome of every election.
How does that give everyone a voice again?

Yes, but we are talking about fraud and corruption.
