Poll: Guy I like sent me a pic of him flipping me off? Why is it so hard to respond maturely?

Everything was fine, he knows I don't want a relationship now, but clearly I've hurt his feelings somehow.

I feel like I shouldn't put up with it, I didn't do anything to him... but I feel so terrible and worried about him that I want to give in and see if he's ok?

It hurts me so much that he's hurting or that I'm hurting him.

I want to feed into the bait, but I know that's the wrong thing to do. :( 
I was in a manipulative relationship before and I am scared.

Hon, the situation now is not easy. You want to protect yourself and the wounds of your former relationship are still open. Maybe, you could write back "sorry, I did not want to be harsh but I need time to find trust in other people again". It will take time depending of the mental damage you suffer now. I am sure, you get your energy back. Is there something unusual at the picture that made you go crazy?

Thing is, if you are in a state of trying to distance yourself from the dude or his atmosphere, checking up on him would send the wrong message (for you, it would be the right message in his mind).
