Astronomy:Why has the oldest Star Party in the world, put two spot lights in prime areas of observing, ruining the dark site experience?

I'm talking about Stellaphane up in Vermont at Breezy Hill.

Update:

I didn't go this year but observed this through its webcams. I don't remember anyone in previous conventions that were afraid of the dark.

Its more like some idiot threaten to sue them. I just wanted a first-hand account of the event and not some webmasters explanation.

    Stellafane is, first and foremost, a hotel. It is an old (and famous) astronomical site, but the yearly gathering is now mostly of telescope makers. Outside the annual telescope-making contest, it is not really an astronomy site. It is more a museum than an observatory.

    I find it hard to believe that they would do that, if so they would switch them off during observing times?
