. MANAGE CLOSES GARBAGE CHUTE?

live in a 20 unit low income senior building. One bad apple has abused the garbage chute by putting boxes in that got stuck before the ground floor container. The management. Has now closed the chute and tenants are required to take their trash out to the trash pick up container.2 tenants are in wheel chairs and 2 use walkers. Management has asked able tenants to help the handicapped take their garbage out. I get it but don't like it. There is nothing in the lease including using the chute. .

ANY IDEAS?

Unless there's something in your lease about taking your neighbor's garbage down to the dumpsters, OR you're feeling helpful you're under no obligation to take their garbage.

You and the other tenants can try submitting a signed complaint to the management but as you point out there's nothing in your lease that specifically states that they have to provide a garbage chute for you.

No action possible. The chute is closed. It's over.

See if you can get the tenants to meet with management. Since the lease doesn't specify the chute they don't have to provide it, but if everyone agrees to not send large boxes down maybe they will give you guys another chance. Good luck!

You are not required to take anyone's garbage out but your own. I would never agree to it. You would become enslaved to do it at any hour, when asked, you risk a broken or leaking bag and then who will have to clean it up? You. If it is time that the people in wheel chairs and walkers move into a care facility, then perhaps it is time they do it. Let the landlord take out their garbage if he is so concerned about them. I may sound like a hard*ss but, I'm looking down the road. A one time occasion - fine. On an ongoing basis, no.

I don't understand what you are asking ideas for.

If use of the trash chute is not included in your lease, management does not have to provide acess to it. And that means you'll have to carry your trash out to the dumpster.

Why not work with your neighbours to solve the real problem? Management does not want to spend money on clearing out the blockages. You all know who is the bad apple. So present yourselves at apple's door and explain what he has done. Give him a lesson on chute use, he may have no idea that he caused this. Peer group pressure is a beautiful thing, far more effective than letters from the management.

Once you have his agreement to behave, tell management you have solved the problem and want the chute back. Then keep a close eye on apple.
