Rat advice please?
Bought 2 rats from a breeder today. I bought a carrier case from the breeder and it only just fit through the cage doors, thing is, while struggling with it etc the rats started to become scared, which I couldn't really prevent, and the black one is just sitting in a corner, and the grey one is still in the carrier under the shredded paper.. Their water is the next level up, so is one of the food bowls, and the other one they can't get to right now because the carrier is in the way. I know they won't be scared forever but I hate how the grey one was so nice and okay with what was happening and now he is scared, because of me trying to help them.. I'm mostly just worried that they won't explore. They need to eat and drink eventually and i'm not sure if they'll do that tonight :/

They will be scared and under stress until they acclimate to their new home and surroundings.
Suggestions are plenty of room in the cage, places to hide, Quiet, and avoid bright lighting.
Give them their time to settle and feel safe and avoid interacting with them until after they settle.
Rats are very smart and come around fairly quick. Consider this is a stressful time for them.
Get your rattie out of the carrier and put it aside. It may take a couple or few days for them to settle.
I would have food and water available on the bottom floor, they may not start exploringother areas of the cage until they settle a bit,
Feeling safe, finding food and water, of course the company of another helps, are some things these animal must have before any progress with taming and trust training can really begin.
There are a few good rat keeping forums that are great places to read about them, things like caging and housing, food and diet, behaviors, toys and cage amenities, and spotting problems and possible medical conditions.
Best of luck with your new ratties.

Rats are sensitive to changes. They will get used to their new home pretty quickly though and will not let themselves go hungry or thirsty. Relax.

Take the carrier out of the cage if it's blocking the things to help them explore. Since you just got them today, they're a little bit stressed out. Imagine being taken from your mom and placed into a new home, its energy draining. They should come around within the next week and you'll be able to handle them and they'll be more outgoing.
