Can anyone recommend an app for iPhone 5 that opens a word document where I previously left off?
I m preparing myself for a writing challenge (NaNoWriMo) and plan to write the last novel of a trilogy for the challenge. I m currently re-reading the second part but generally only have time to read in bed. I don t own a tablet and reading on my laptop is a pain due to positioning issues.
I m looking for an app for my phone that will allow me to read, close the app and then resume where I left off previously when I open it again. I have the word file (docx format) which I can also convert to PDF if necessary but that will mess up my formatting so docx is preferable. But my priority is being able to open the file where I stopped reading. Having to scroll through dozens (and eventually hundreds) of pages every time is becoming a bother.
*Would appreciate any suggestions for free apps. I'm switching from my iPhone 5 to a Samsung S8 in about a week and I kind of don't want to buy more apps for my iPhone since it will essentially be wasted money.

Convert to an epub using Calibre, then use "Shubook 2M" on the phone.
I use that as a general ebook reader and it does automatically open the same book and go back to the page it was on when you closed it last.
Calibre is free:
Shubook2M
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/shubook-2m/id95001...
Not free but very cheap and well worth the cost.
Calibre can import just about any document format and convert to any ebook format - It can directly import DOCX according to its info though I have not used it with that.
Convert your file to epub within calibre, as that's the optimum format for small devices.
If for some reason that does not work properly, try saving as Rich Text from Word and import that into calibre.
Calibre can take PDF, that should also work - but it may possibly not create an epub that can adapt to the device screen width as it's then a fixed page format. The nearer editable text it is, the better display you are likely to get.
To get books from Calibre into Shubook, after converting to epub:
In Calibre, go to the "Connect / Share" menu and start Content Server.
The phone needs to be on the same WiFi LAN as the computer you are using.
In Shubook, select Download on the bottom menu.
Select Custom on top of the screen.
Hit "+" at the top left.
Select "Find Catalog" - it should find your Calibre library on the PC. Click that.
You can then browse through the books in Calibre and just hit Download [TOP of the screen] on whatever one you want.
That gets the book and also switches back to viewing the phone content. Hitting the download icon on the bottom of the screen switches back to the remote Calibre library.
It takes longer to explain than to do, once you are used to it....
Note that there are multiple versions of Shubook, apparently for different regions/languages. Make sure you get the "2M" one for English use.
