Florida teenagers filming a person drowning, is it really true they go unpunshied?

If they didn't dial 911 they should be charged, but no way I'm swimming in an open body of water in florida for a stranger. You must assume alligators are present.

It is not a law that you must place yourself in danger to help others.

It should be a law that one is required to at least call 911 if they have access to a phone. I do not believe it is a citizen's responsibility to put their own life in a threatening position to rescue another person as more often than not, training is required for rescue operations.......which knowledge most citizens do not possess.

These kids did not push that man into the water. But, taunting him while he was drowning is a moral issue, not a legal one. Sure, it could have caused the drowning man more distress during his last moments of struggling to stay alive before he drowned, but how does one measure that and come upon punishment for that type of behavior?

These kids may laugh now, but trust me, some of them will be haunted for the rest of their lives by what they did to that guy as he drowned.

The problem with laws requiring people to help others in distress is that it opens up a whole new way for people to sue one another. Not everyone is capable to think clearly in a rescue operation and their actions may even cause further harm, which opens up a world of liability to an innocent person who tried to help.

I believe people should at least be required to call 911 to get help for someone in distress.

I wouldn't have filmed it, but I would have watched. There is no law stating you must help. Charges that are handed out are handed out out of personal disgust, something that is unjust.
