Can 5.56x45 brass be necked up to 357?

Update:

To use in an AR. .223/5.56 brass has been successfully necked up and down for years, from .17 Remington to .30 Blackout, Whisper, etc...

Update 2:

How can so many have completely missed the point? Or are you all just yankin' my chain?

Update 3:

.357 is the diameter of a bullet, nothing to do with case dimensions,.

Update 4:

Most of you are limited, ignorant. I'm sorry I asked.

Update 5:

How difficult would it be to modify my AR boltface to accomodate a rimmed handgun cartridge?

Update 6:

Impossible.

Update 7:

Ever hear of a Win 351sl in a 1907 semi-auto rifle?

Update 8:

Ever hear of a Win 351sl in a 1907 semi-auto rifle?

Update 9:

    5.56 rim diameter is .378.

    .357 rim diameter is .440.

Necking up is not the only issue.

That depends if you like the way your face looks, or if you would rather look like Michael Jackson!

This one is a reloading instructor. That you ask this question and add no details - tells me you are going to have a visit to the Emergency Room in the near future so doctors can remove pieces of blown up pistol from you face and hands.

A rule with NO EXCEPTIONS: "When reloading - if the practice and procedure is not written in black and white in a reloading manual, do not do it".

Gun shops all over America are decorated with blown up guns from guys who have a 'great idea'. I have been making my own ammo since 1978 - I have never 'blown up' at the range. I love shooting and the shooting sports. My friends who have had a 'bright idea' or were 'careless' and blew themselves up at the local range...... they don't shoot any more.

It would be essentially straight-walled, with no shoulder for headspacing. Sure, you could, but it's hard to figure a reason for doing so.

Possible. Not practical. You would have to trim the case to somewhere around 1 7/16" length. Expand the case to acquire about .375"-.380" shoulder diameter making a straight wall rimless cartridge. You would have tad longer case than a .357 Magnum. Not a good move.
