I live in CA and saving my money like crazy. Is it best to live up in Northern CA? Right now I live in the Orange County area?

I could be happy in the Bay Area (where I live now) or many parts of the LA metro area. I think people tend to overstate the differences. It really comes down to where are you going to work.

If you're "saving money like crazy" in Orange County, your income must be pretty good. But keep in mind that the cost of living is even higher in the Bay Area. The median rent in *Hayward* now is $1900.

I am impressed that you are living in Orange County and saving money like crazy, good for you, now what is the real reason here for your post, there is a world of difference between northern and southern Calif. in fact, you may not be aware of it but the northern part is and has been threatening to secede from the state, form their own state and separate themselves from southern Calif

when I came to Calif I landed in Berkeley and loved it, but have live in Oceanside 60 yrs, there is no way I would move back to the Bay area again now

100% personal preference. Which do you like better?

I lived in Long Beach for approximately 30 years or so.

I prefer southern California. It rain less and is warmer in the southern part of California.

I was stationed in northern California for a couple of years at Travis AFB, in F airfield, California. I am aware of the weather and the difference.

Orange county is sort of expensive to live, however if you plan to live in or around t he San Francisco area, your expense would not be change that much.

I hope this has been of some benefit to you, good luck.

It's best to live in a city where you can get yourself a rent controlled apartment. I know friends renting apartments in Venice and in Berkeley. So cheap. They save a lot. I don't see how these landlords can be making money at all!

There is not a world wide agreement on any best place. However in the USA we settle most stuff with money. If a lot of people want to live somewhere then the prices go up. So the cheap places do not have as many people desiring to live there. I like non crowed places and a side benifit is they are cheaper. Stand up and make your own decision.

Inland Northern California is the least costly area of the state. However, job opportunities are not as plentiful as in other, higher cost, areas of California.

Large cities are more expensive than rural areas which is true in both Northern California and Southern California

Obviously loads of people live both places. "Best" is 100% subjective, so only "you* can make the decision as to what is best for you.
