there is nothing cheap in LA, it is congested, lots of crime, lots of fun things to do, places to go, things to see but if you don't have money to do them, forget it

California is one of the most expensive states in the United States.
Living in Los Angeles is fun and exciting. There are many place to visit and of interest.
Gas prices in California is normally $1.00 to .75 higher than the rest of the states.
You would need a car to get around the Los Angeles/Long Beach area. Public transportation is not that reliable.
I lived in Long Beach, California for about 30 years, prior to moving about 6 years ago.
At that time rent for a 2 bedroom one bath 800 square foot apartment was $1,300 and $75.00 for a garage.
At the time a room rented for $800.00 Rent in California is not cheap my any stretch of the imagination.
If you are looking for cheap rent you will be in a cardboard box with the others on the street or under a bridge.
I am sure the rent has increased above that now.
You will find food purchased at a grocery store inexpensive, as you are not required to pay state taxes on any food. There are many grocery stores, so the competition is very good and the cost of food is not that high.
I hope this has been of some benefit to you, good luck.

Bottom line living in CA is not cheap. In LA you're going to be paying alot for rent, gas, and just overall cost of living. Living here in the bay area, I can tell you that you'll at least be paying close to 2k a month for a 1 bedroom, and up to 3k a month for a 2 or 3 bedroom apartment.
Once you live in LA you'll have to put up with traffic 24/7 as its one of the most congested cities in the country. Upside is that the weather is fantastic year round cause its California. If you can put up the insane cost of living I'd say its worth it.
