Where did Jesus go for 3 days after He died on the cross?

He went to Hades/Abrahams bosom...read the story of the rich man and lazarus in chapter Luke 16

Let's read the words of Jesus to find out where he went after his death on the cross.

(Mat 12:40) For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the HEART of the EARTH.

* We really want to trust the words of our Lord on this matter. He clearly said he would be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth BEFORE his resurrection (John 2:19-22 & 3:14)

* Many christian's hold the view that yes this is true but believe during those three days and nights he was dead in the flesh but he was alive in the Spirit and preached to the spirits in prison who were located in Abraham's bosom (1Pet 3:18-19 & Luke 16:23)

* If this context is correct then why did our Lord NOT say this ?

* Another scripture many christians seem to have a problem with in regards to our Lord's time in the heart of the earth is:

(Psa 16:10) For thou wilt not leave my SOUL in HELL; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to SEE CORRUPTION.

* Some christians seem to be repulsed by the idea that Jesus spent three days and three nights in HELL !

* Now I don't want to get into all the different definitions of the word hell, hades etc, in the bible but what I will say --- to equate the word hell as being a place of eternal torment of fire for the wicked is UNSCRIPTURAL!

*If the proof text for hell being a literal place of torment and fire is in (Luke 16:23-24) then all the other events in these verses have to be literal as well.

- So where is Abraham's bosom mentioned in the OT ?

- What sin did the rich man commit to go to hell ? Being rich wasn't a sin - Abraham was rich (Gen 13:2)

- What righteous thing did Lazarus do to go to paradise ? Being sick and poor doesn't make a person righteous before God.

* My point is - (Luke 16:23-24) is not a good example of where the unsaved and saved go after death -- in fact it's very possible our Lord was MOCKING the hypocritical Pharisees (v:14) on their ideas of the afterlife in this story.

Ok, our Lord Jesus spent three days and three nights in HELL which is the grave.

(Psa 30:3) O'Lord, thou hast brought UP MY SOUL from the GRAVE: thou has KEPT ME ALIVE, that I should not go down to the pit.

*Yes, Jesus was dead in his body but alive in his spirit (in this context) but he STAYED three days and three nights in that grave-- he didn't go anywhere else!

*The Good news for us christian's is that he died for our sins, was buried and rose again on the third day and CONQUERED death and one day we will as well ! (1Cor 15:53-57)

* Our Lord beat death and was raised for us -- and sits on the right hand of God in heaven as the PERFECT GOD-MAN (Acts 2:24-33) who is our Lord and Saviour (Tit 1:4)

* Maybe you don't agree with some of my views -- but how about a challenge to you to study God's word to see it these things are true (2Tim 2:15 )

HELL .

Jesus can thus tell those Jewish leaders: A wicked and adulterous generation keeps on seeking a sign, but no sign will be given it except the sign of Jonah the prophet.

Jesus does not leave them to wonder about what he means: Just as Jonah was in the belly of the huge fish for three days and three nights, so the Son of man will be in the heart of the earth for three days and three nights.

Jonah was swallowed by some sort of huge fish but then came out as if resurrected. Jesus thus foretells that he himself will die and on the third day be raised.

Jesus spent parts of three days in the grave and was resurrected.

The King James & Catholic Bible says that Jesus was put to death on a tree.

King James says: Acts 5:30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.

King James says: Acts 10:39 And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree.

King James says: Acts 13:29 And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a sepulchre.

King James says: Gal. 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree.

1 Peter 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

In the two centuries after the death of Jesus it is doubtful that the Christians ever used the device of the cross.

To the early Christians, the cross must have chiefly denoted death and evil, like the guillotine or the electric chair to later generations.

Jesus didn't die on a cross.

Jesus was alive on Friday nailed to a cross, on a tomb on Saturday and not on the tomb on Sunday morning.... so not many travels to check those days

He went to Hell and preached to the damned souls in there, hoping to get them out. God got really pissed off and told him never to do that again.

Jesus died on a torture stake not a pagan demonic cross. He was layed in a tomb then after 3 days was resurrected by his Father Jehovah God and walked the earth in his new fleshly body then shed it for his new immortal spirit body to ascend back to heaven to his Father Jehovah God to present the value of his shed blood for all mankind to his Father Jehovah God. He is now ruling in heaven as the Messianic King of Jehovah's heavenly Kingdom and shortly he and the heavenly angels will come to destroy all of Satan's wicked system of things and all of Babylon the Great the world empire of false religion including Christendom's members at Armageddon-Rev 20; Matt 25:31-46;Rev 16:14,16;Rev 18

He was resting from his wounds and dehydration after being resuscitated from his relatively gentle crucifixion with the help of fast thinking Nicodemus and J.Aramithea.

In all 3 gospels, Jesus is clearly not in shock. Patient is coherent, able to walk and speak, and is situationally aware. Also, no signs of suffocation on cross - is able to make lengthy orations well into the evening. Showed no signs of confusion. Was not irritable or combative. Thus, blood loss is very minimal - surface lesions only. A class 1 hemorrhage at most.

Soldier did not break legs - survival rate guaranteed. Can live for 7 more days in this condition. Even Pilate knows this for he is surprised to hear that he is ''dead so soon''. So surprised that he sends a sentry to confirm as he is in total disbelief.

The flowage of blood from the wound - a sign the body is still alive - it is not yet dead. Also flowage of water - most likely urine from stabbing the kidney - another sign that the nervous system is still intact. In quick succession, Aramithea pleads with Pilate for Jesus's body shortly after losing consciousness and moves him briskly to a tomb upon which we see Nicodemus arrive to treat the body with a peculiar mix of myrrh and aloe - a salve that stops mortal bleeding. But thats not all that was peculiar - the sheer amount of it was extraordinary - about 100 pounds was used. And he did it during the night of the Sabbath when no work was to be performed. John 19:39.

After his resuscitation, we see Mary not recognizing him - most likely from all the bandages and edema (swelling of body tissues after trauma). She also mistakes him for a lowly garden caretaker which suggests he was clothed in something that hid his face and injuries like a hooded lacerna or paenula. And then we see Jesus in hiding as he walks incognito to Emmaus alongside Cloepas who is unaware of the "stranger's" identity and appears to be spotted for very brief moments in spurious locations by some disciples. When he finally does visit, doors and windows are shut out of fear and trepidation rather than rejoicing. In Luke 24:39, he tells the stunned apostles that he is not a ghost but is a real human with flesh and bones. He then tells them he is hungry and promptly asks for food upon which he is given some leftovers. Luke 24:41-43.

This clandestine-like activity recorded in the gospels is typical of a fugitive who is attempting to evade recapture.

His actual survival of crucifixion - unheard of in 1st century Rome - became the basis for the legend celebrated on Easter and influenced a great deal of people - one in particular named Paul of Tarsus who may have actually met Jesus in person on the road to Damascus - complete with holes in both hands and feet and a large gaping scar under his ribs.

His body was placed in a cave/tomb, but his spirit went to hell to pay for our sins.
