Why is John "Songbird" McCain still considered a war hero?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7tkBiFZBix0

Military Code of Conduct:

III

If I am captured I will continue to resist by all means available. I will make every effort to escape and aid others to escape. I will accept neither parole nor special favors from the enemy.

IV

If I become a prisoner of war, I will keep faith with my fellow prisoners. I will give no information or take part in any action which might be harmful to my comrades. If I am senior, I will take command. If not, I will obey the lawful orders of those appointed over me and will back them up in every way.

V

When questioned, should I become a prisoner of war, I am required to give name, rank, service number and date of birth. I will evade answering further questions to the utmost of my ability. I will make no oral or written statements disloyal to my country and its allies or harmful to their cause.

Everyone has a breaking point. There are very few people who could go through what Senator McCain did and NOT break at some point. 6 years of constant torture is a LONG time. Honestly, how could anyone NOT consider this man a hero? I know I couldn't do this, even if I were 40 years younger.

Don't be so fast here, Dude, just which of these rules did you think he broke? if you know your history about him, he WAS OFFERED HIS FREEDOM SEVERAL TIMES, BUT REFUSED, BECAUSE HE WOULD'NT LELAVE THE COMRADS OF HIS BEHIND. What ever he has become now, he is still a hero from his past. You cannot take that away from him. I'll bet you 'Butterfinger' would have jumped at the offer of freedom had YOU been there then.

John McCain , in fact, followed lll and lV to the letter and in spirit , did in fact follow V to the letter.

He refused special favors. (early release).......when the Code of CONDUCT made clear , first captured MUST be first released. He REFUSED earlier release, just because his daddy was an admiral.

Thus REFUSING special favors.......for which, he was SEVERELY beaten......to the point of losing the full use of his arm to this day.

As for article V.----------he did in fact, resist, to the UTMOST of his ability.......but after years of torture......the limits of ability was breached.

If you think you can do any better,------volunteer to have the sh*t beaten out of you daily for 6 years straight and see if you can break his record, before he broke, and made a stupid forced video under duress.

I would guess you'd be pissing your pants and crying for your momma, after 5 minutes.

He was held for SIX YEARS.

Trump isn't fit to spit shine McCain's shoes.

"To the best of my ability." Everyone cracks sooner or later. Even Admiral Stockdale cracked and we gave him the Medal of Honor anyway.
