2000 Silverado, starts, doesn't run.?

Question

My 2000 Chevy Silverado 1500 w/ 5.3 was stolen with major damage to collum.
Just finished rebuilding the collum with new parts.

It starts right up but immediately dies.
Pushing gas deosnt seem to have any effect.

Beyond the battery, I haven't seen anything under the hood that was messed with.

Everything is plugged in at the dash. Everything looks right, but it dies right after starting.

Any suggestions welcomed.

Dead ringer symptoms of a problem with the GM security system. Did you install a new column, new lock cylinder, new lock cylinder case? If so, you'll need to reprogram.

The first thing I would look at would be the actual ignition switch. This is located lower on the column and connected to the key switch with a rod. It could be out of adjustment and not staying in the "run position when the key is released from the starting position, or the switch could be damaged and not making contact in the run position

Did the immobilizer get reprogrammed to the ignition switch? Sounds like it's turning off the fuel pump because it doesn't recognize the key. I'm not sure if you can just pull the fuel pump relay and jump the hot wire to the fuel pump but I'd give it a try. That would save you a tow bill to get to the dealer.

I would suspect a problem with the ignition switch wiring (since that's where the damage and repairs were performed).  Things can look okay, but the actual problem may not be visible.
