What is hacking? Someone rcently told me guessing at someone's password and trting to lig in isn't hacking. So what is? Need details please.?

Hacking is any attempt to gain access to a computer system, cellphone, or other electronic device that you are not legally given the right to access, usually through exploiting weaknesses in the system. Trying to guess someone's password is indeed hacking. You are exploiting the weakness, which is the password that was used.

If it is not YOUR account, and you are not legally authorized to try to get into the system in question, then you are guilty of hacking and can face both criminal and civil penalties. Most western governments have a cyber-crimes division, and the laws are similar to these ones that you would be breaking:

- The "Wiretap Act" prevents anyone from illegally intercepting or disclosing private information.

- "Unlawful access to stored communications" protects a person's privacy in email and voicemail communications.

- "Access device fraud" is meant to protect people's data from someone trying to gain access to it through illegal means such as hacking.

- "Communications Interference" involves any cases where you do something that causes a problem in data communications, in an attempt to collect data about a system operations, or to force a password to expire, or such.
