If an answer contains wrong information, should another user correct it?

If so, what's the best way to do that?

Update:

Thanks to all for the answers, sorry for any TDs (none were from me, I don't TD answers on questions I ask even iif they were deserved). I just refuse to do that.

Yes i believe wrong information should be corrected but in an acceptable polite way not a raging rant.

Correcting someone calling them morons, idiots, delusional and other insults is not the way but is common.

The best way is to just post the correct information, you could say 'actually the correct information is' and post it.

Some egregious misinformation needs to be corrected to stop it spreading such as answers saying it is OK to stalk and target other users if it is done in self defense because that makes it not a TOS violation.

Minor misinformation is just misleading to others not familiar with the changes from before and after but even those should be corrected.

There is a lot of misinformation consistently being posted and to benefit all users it should be corrected.

It depends on the way You approach such member's false, incomprehensible, outdated and/or possibly fraud response. For example: calling out is a big 'No No' so the best thing to do in such said case is to post the correct response in Your 'own' answer & let the 'consistent/Not just summertime troll' TD's speak for themselves.

Or if someone is new on the site, the easiest remedy is to post a comment under said answer so said member is made aware that All or possibly part of Their response is wrong. There's NO harm in that! It's how We 'learn' the rules here. It's been done to Me ever since comments were introduced. Said people were trying to 'shape' Me as a knowledgeable member. Very few were negative towards Me so it's something I've learned to do as well.

However, some members are Not here to be helpful. They just grab a bunch of links so They can look All knowledgeable. They swear by this & that to the point where They make a negative 'name' for themselves without Anyone elses help. They're right, You're wrong....blah,blah,blah. And they report Any answer or comment that even vaguely resembles someone talking about them. Because seriously - they are that 'popular' as the 1 & ONLY member on All of this site that doesn't want to be told what they did/said WAS wrong.*scoffs*

But who really cares? They don't. So all You can do is give the 'right' response along with the rest of the knowledgeable & respected members of YA and leave said members to their own delusional ideas of what's right or wrong.

You could post what you believe is the correct answer yourself, citing better sources, or write a comment, in case you want to come across to me as pedantic. Don't anonimize it, though. That takes away a ton of credibility.

Yes, but this should be done in a polite manner. Anyone calling out other users or insult them while doing this will get reported.

Yes, correct it by posting the correct answer. Make sure you do not call out other users or say their answer is wrong. Those can make it a violation.

Yes, of course they should make the correction. But in a nice polite way.

  • vor 5 Jahren

Yes. You may give comments to correct it.

Lots of people think their answer is right and someone else's is wrong. And sometimes when people think they are right, they're wrong.

  • vor 5 Jahren

Yes, put the correction in the comments or in your own answer.

You start up a yahoo answer question of your own and have at it. You go! Fix this stuff up around here.
